The Bodhgaya region is home to over a million tourists and pilgrims each year from across the globe, particularly the South East Asian countries. The visitors primarily focus on multiple forms of intangible and tangible heritage and culture, to seek enlightenment on the cultural diversity of the region. The initiative aims to promote active participation and engagement of the local communities in heritage tourism for ensuring their sustainable livelihoods. The heritage tourism package will include the multiple historical and cultural sites at the following locations:
- Bodhgaya
- Rajgir
- Kurkihar
- Nalanda
- Barabar Caves
In this region, tourists and pilgrims will have a good opportunity to learn about significant changes and developments in the local communities particularly the marginal communities represented through the following:
- Jeevika
- Biogas and Solar Energy villages
- Habitat and settlement of Marginal Communities primarily Musahar community.
